Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (often simply abbreviated to D.R.I.) is an American thrash metal band from Houston, TX. Formed in 1982, the group's roots rest predominantly in the hardcore punk rock scene and D.R.I.'s early albums are the product of a band obsessed with breakneck tempos and aggressive, testosterone-fueled energy. Slowly but surely, D.R.I. began to adapt to the sounds of thrash metal and this new stylistic direction, coupled with the group's preexisting punk rock history helped form the creation of what would become to be known as crossover thrash--a new sub-genre that attempted to bridge the gap between metal kids and punks.
