Born into a large family of Irish-Americans, Sexton left home at 22 to busk on the streets, in an attempt to forge his own path separate from his siblings and start a music career. Eventually Sexton ended up in Massachusetts and by 1994 had received the Boston Music Award for Best New Artist, primarily due to the increasing popularity of his live shows where the singer/songwriter jumped from genre to genre, including the occasional beatboxing and scat. Primarily popular on the dad rock circuit today, Martin Sexton continues to garner awards and tour frequently.
