During one stiflingly hot Mississippi summer in 1955, the world saw for the first time what passed for justice in the Jim Crow South: an all-white, all male jury drinking beer as they acquitted two white men for lynching a 14-year-old black boy. The tension, the drama, the pain, and the catharsis of the trial that fueled the Civil Rights Movement comes to life in this harrowing play based on transcripts from the trial.
