Although The Washington Ballet was formed in 1976, its seeds were sowed much before that- in 1944 with the creation of The Washington School of Ballet. The school was established by Mary Day and her mentor, Lisa Gardiner. The former of which founded The Washington Ballet and used it to showcase some of the best performers from her school. Even after so many years, the The Washington Ballet maintained the high standards set by Mary Day. It features a cast of talented dancers who belong from varied backgrounds, united by their passion for the art and trained by established choreographers. Over the years, The Washington Ballet has established itself as one of the premier ballets in the country through its performances of evergreen ballets.
