Elementary school friends Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser have played in bands together since their childhood. After graduating from high school, they became involved with the dance-punk label DFA and acted as studio musicians for the label's LCD Soundsystem and Juan Maclean. After the urging of James Murphy, label head and front man of LCD Soundsystem, the duo decided to release an electro-disco single under the guise of Holy Ghost!, and it received huge support from club DJs and New York music aficionados. To follow up this success, the band released several hit remixes, dropped an EP and was asked by LCD Soundsystem to open on part of its final tour.
