Born Taalib Johnson, in Philadelphia, PA, Musiq Soulchild is a soul artist who meshes contemporary R&B with an alternative funk and jazzy-blues touch. As for his name, Musiq was always referred to as "that music dude", so he soon began introducing himself as Music. He cites Musiq as the frontman and Soulchild as everything he's drawn from. He presents himself as an artist, but one who closely reflects his influences of the past.
