"Paint" is a pair of one act plays involving everything from existential crises to really long monologues, to two professionally choreographed dance numbers. Act I: Paint A story about madness, dependence, and losing oneself in the face of the tyrannical and the mundane. Lola and Jim live together in a psychiatric hospital where they rely on one another for company, love, and escape from the everyday. But when Jim comes to a disturbing realization, he must call into question not only his role as Lola’s artistic muse, but every aspect of himself as well. While Lola fights for resolution, an absence of solutions begins to spiral their dynamic toward desperation. Act II: Cats and Kings -- A story examining the different states of mind toward which we tend -- outlooks that come and go, shaping and unshaping how we see the world and its realities. Roommates Maya, Claude, and Esther engage in a bizarre evening of dancing, drinking, and discussing everything from stomach acid to suicide, from diabetes to chicken evolution. Claude battles an existential crisis, while Maya tries to pin down a philosophical answer, and Esther copes with some distressing news.
