He was only 15 years old when he was sentenced to serve 8 years in adult prisons throughout the State of Virginia. Through his incarceration, Marcus learned how important mail is in keeping the 2.3 million incarcerated men and women engaged with their families. Experiencing this challenge first-hand and understanding the opportunity in front of him, Marcus founded Flikshop a mobile app that keeps families suffering from incarceration connected. Users can take a photo, add some quick text, and Flikshop prints the photo and text on a tangible postcard that ships directly to any person in any jail, prison, youth facility or immigration facility. After the success of the Flikshop mobile app, Marcus went on to create the Flikshop School of Business to assist in building reentry eco-systems for men and women released from prison that center around entrepreneurship, coding, and mobile app development. Marcus and the Flikshop team have won: 2015 Innovator of the Year (The Daily Record) and 2016 Aspen Ideas Festival Award (Booz Allen Hamilton).Marcus sits on the board of directors of Justice Policy Institute and the advisory board for The Aspen Institute's Opportunity Youth Incentive Fund.100% of ticket proceeds will be donated to Little Lights - a DC-based urban organization that empowers underserved youth, families, and communities by sharing the hope of Christ through compassionate action, caring relationships, and racial reconciliation.Grab your RSVP for DC's hottest tech gathering today!Committee Members:Alexander Knight, Cooley LLPDavid Jack, GetWellNetworkJeremy Traficant, AccentureKatherine Ferguson, Cooley LLPDavid Fonseca, ACLJXavier Underwood, XB MediaReggie Watson, DOJMike Kueng, Notion Theory
