Also known affectionately as King David or The Prophet, Capleton is a reggae artist from Jamaica who got his start as a dancehall DJ while he was still teenager. After leaving his hometown of St. Mary at age 18, he soon rose to fame with his sexually explicit and violent lyrics starting with his 1991 debut album Lotion Man, though as the years went on, his music became enlightened with themes of consciousness and politics, particularly dealing with the Rastafarian movement. With his early 1990s hits such as "Tour" and "Cold Blooded Murder," Capleton earned a record deal with Russell Simmons' Def Jam Recordings and released 1995's Prophecy and 1997's I-Testament, two albums that would go on to define his future sound and career.
