Big Band evolved from a two-piece project into a four-member heavy metal band since its formation in 2004. Jared Warren and Coady Willis became a duo and released its debut album Head for the Shallow, in 2005 before relocating to Los Angeles and becoming members of The Melvins. While recording actively with The Melvins, Big Business developed its own sludgy stoner metal sound and added a third member named Toshi Kasai to the mix in 2008. The band released its third album, titled Mind the Drift, in 2009 as a trio and became a quartet in 2010 with the addition of Scott Martin.
