Hot Tuna is a blues rock band from San Francisco, California and was formed in 1969 by former Jefferson Airplane members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen as a spin-off of the iconic 1960s psychedelic rock band. Although the band would never truly take off quite like its predecessor in terms of world-renown, Hot Tuna has maintained a rather iconic status in the blues rock community, despite experiencing a tumultuous career as a band through much of the 1970s and 1980s. However, beginning in 1986 the band reunited and was able to maintain some stability over the course of the following two decades, and as of today, Hot Tuna has not only completely stabilized as a band, but continues to achieve acclaim as one of the United States' more capable blues rock acts out there.
