Taking the dice and distort technique of contemporaries Balam Acab and Salem, New York-based duo Purity Ring adds a layer of bubbly synth and highly pop-friendly female vocals (that are even autotuned at certain points) to its sample collage. The result is akin to mainstream pop's version of witch house, but the sharp contrast is surprisingly creative and appealing. Formed in New York by a member of electro-noise band Gobble Gobble, Purity Ring developed buzz on the blogosphere after releasing two singles in 2011 and has managed to maintain that buzz leading up to the release of its debut album.
