Götz Widmann is a prominent singer/songwriter who was born in Bonn, Germany. After finishing school with a degree in business, Widmann turned to music and started a collaboration with Martin Simon called Joint Venture. In 2000, Joint Venture was cut short when Simon died of a heart attack. After the sudden death of his friend and music partner, Widmann continued to make music in the fashion of Joint Venture, covering themes of politics, sex and cannabis with satire and a quick wit. In 2004, he released his solo studio album Zeit, which marked a turning point in his career when his music began to take on more thoughtful themes. Widmann's musical development continued onto his next album, the 2006 effort Habt euch lieb, which featured a full band instead of his usual acoustic guitar accompaniment.
