200 The Promenade at Lighthouse Point, Staten Island, New York, NY, United States, 10301
In an attempt to preserve the age-old service and navigational function of lighthouses, the National Lighthouse Museum was established in 2015. The advent of the internet saw an increase in the use of modern accouterments such as GPS and solar panels, while lighthouses were relegated to a relic of the yesteryear. The museum stands on the erstwhile location of the New York Marine Hospital in the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island. Visitors can expect several exhibits such as the Wall of Lights, a dazzling wall structure with miniature lighthouse models from over the world, the historic timeline of the lighthouse, foghorns and signals and an orientation experience on the role of lighthouses. Of the many events arranged by the National Lighthouse Museum, one of them is the annual Lighthouse Boat Tour that takes visitors through 14 lighthouses in the New York harbor.
