One of the best educational institutions in town, Staples High School was established by Horace Staples, in April 1884. The award-winning school has been the alma mater of popular actress Marilyn Briggs, actor Christopher Lloyd and Harry Rodrigues, author Jane Yolen, and footballer Win Headley among many others. The school's in-house newspaper Inklings, has won the prestigious Columbia Scholastic Press Association gold medal for several years, and has been listed as one of the best public schools of 2004 by the Wall Street Journal.
