The Slovak National Theatre is the premier cultural institution of the country. Established in the year 1920, the theater has two buildings, the Historic Building and the New Building. The historic building is constructed in the Neo-Renaissance style and is a symbol of the cultural history of Slovakia. The building's main facade is captivating, to say the least, and is flanked by an assemblage of vivid sculptures to its north. The collection of statues are the work of renowned Viennese sculptor T. Friedl. A grandiose fountain sits in front of the main entrance and adorns a bronze sculpture that depicts a young boy riding an eagle. A variety of productions are hosted here including, drama, ballet, opera and orchestra performances.
