Dedicated to Sainte Croix of Orleans, the Orleans Cathedral is a beautiful Gothic masterpiece. The soaring twin towers of the edifice have impressive visibility throughout the city and have become emblematic of Orleans. The church's current location has historically been the site of at least two previous churches, the first one dating as far back as 330 CE. Major historic events including a devastating fire in the 10th Century and the Wars of Religion in the 16th Century played their part in the destruction of the previous edifices. The stunning cathedral building see today was constructed between 1601 to 1829, with some elements preserved from the earlier ones. Prominent elements within the cathedral include the 17th-century organ as well as the beautiful stained-glass windows depicting the story of Joan of Arc, the Heroine of Orleans.
