In the year 1886, the ancient Episcopal Palace in Astorga was ravaged in a fire. Joan Baptista, the bishop, opined that Antoni Gaudi, his close friend and a celebrated architect, be commissioned to design the new mansion. Constructed between the years 1889 and 1913, Episcopal Palace is a Modernist marvel built in neo-Gothic architectural style. It comprises a magnificent mansion, church and a castle. Los Caminos Museum is also housed inside the palace.
