Eyam, Eyam, United Kingdom, S32
Popularly called as the "plague village", Eyam is located in Derbyshire. During the plague outbreak which struck England in 1665, it was the village of Eyam that had isloated itself, instead of letting the plague infection spread. Eyam is named and founded by Anglo-Saxons even though Romans have mined for lead in this area. Presently, Eyam has several places of tourist importance, essentially the plague-associated places. One of these is the Coolstone. This was a stone where the people kept money, dipped in vinegar as it was perceived to destory the plague infection. The money was kept in exchange of medicine and food. In the year 1994, the Eyam Museum was inaugrated, showcasing items of local history and that of 1665 plague outbreak in particular.
