21 New Globe Walk Bankside, Shakespeare’s Globe, London, United Kingdom, SE1 9DT
The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse forms a part of Shakespeare’s Globe, and stands beside the beautifully reconstructed Globe theater. This candle-lit, indoor theater is fashioned after the 17th-century playhouses where avid audiences would gather to witness the works of Shakespeare, John Webster and Ben Jonson come to life. Although the Jacobean design of the playhouse was greatly inspired by the historic Blackfriars Theatre, it is only loosely based on the original designs and instead embodies the distinct character of all the theaters that were built around that time. The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is not only a venue for theatrical productions and concerts, but also caters to the needs of the Globe's various educational programs. Visit the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and experience the thrill of live theater in a historic setting that take you back in time.
