Overlooking the Elster River, the 17th Century castle of Moritzburg is one of the most well-preserved monuments. Facing time's ravages, the castle was destroyed several times in the past. However, the awe-inspiring gardens and the ochre yellow facade of the castle as seen today is the result of heavy restorations. The orangerie, bathhouse and the gatehouse along with the ramparts are some of the best attractions within the grounds. Today, the castle complex is used widely for concerts and exhibitions and has become a major cultural hub.
