Krypta, inside the opulent Kaiserdom zu Speyer is a majestic chamber, which has remained unchanged over the centuries. It is the final resting place of 8 German Emperors, 4 Queens and several bishops. Sanctified in the 11th Century, it remains popular as one of the biggest indoor grottos in Europe, designed in an arresting Romanesque style. It covers an area of 850 square meters (9149 square feet) and comprises a total of 42 cellars resting on 20 barrel-shaped pillars. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cathedral and the crypt is a popular tourist attraction.
