Take a break from the routine and get a dose of adventure at McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Nothing is more rewarding than a hike down some of the best trails in the West, making your way through the lush desert terrain and spotting the wonders of this ecosystem. Spread over 21,400 acres (8660.27 hectares) of the Valley, this geological preserve is a natural wonder in itself and gives you an insight into the evolution of this region. Many trails lead to the preserve like Brown Ranch, Gateway, Lost Dog Wash and Sunrise and Tom's Thumb. Besides hiking, other recreational options include horseback riding, biking, rock climbing and off-trail hunting. Organized tours are a great option for tourists visiting the preserve for the first time.
