Built in 1180, the Bargate is an iconic gatehouse and Grade I listed building located in the city center of Southampton. The medieval monument was built as a part of the Southampton town walls during the Norman time. It was the main gateway to the city and has been serving as an exhibition and event space for Southampton Solent University since 2012. The upper room of the monument has served as The Bargate Monument Gallery exhibiting the works of over 250 artists through 42 exhibitions.
