The soaring spire of Sankt Jakob greets locals as well as tourists as they approach the beautiful city of Aachen. Centrally located, the church is considered as one of the most important religious landmarks of the city. Reflecting Romanesque-Revival architecture, the church was built in 1877 under the supervision of German architect Heinrich Wiethase. The church has been subject to constant restoration throughout the years, the recent one being in 2008. Full of historic masterpieces, the interiors of the church are a true testament of period art. An important stop on the pilgrim route from Aachener Dom to Santiago de Compostela, this church is a must-visit for all.
