Schlosskirche at the imposing Elisabethenburg Palace was a historic church in the heart of Meiningen. Built at the same time as the castle, it occupies the castle's south wing. From the 17th Century onwards, it served as the court church for the dukes of Saxe-Meiningen between the years 1692 and 1920. A fine example of the Baroque style, it features an elaborate choir altar, choir screen, and a pulpit, apart from other arresting elements. A four-pillared canopy dates back to the year 1767 and is adorned with a royal emblem. Today, the church is renowned as a concert hall where the iconic German composer Johann Ludwig Bach once performed in the bygone era. It is graced by a number of classical music troupes of the region.
