Originally constructed in 1899 as the three-story Grand Opera House in Historic Brunswick, the Victorian style building south of Savannah also served as retail shops and offices for the Birmingham Railroad. Over the years, entertainment included vaudeville acts and then as a movie house in the 1920s. It fell into decline, but the City of Brunswick purchased the building in 1981 and preserved the building with extensive reconstruction and restoration. However, the original Ritz sign remains. The theater is in full use for concerts, plays, summer theater camps, films and other community events. See the website for programs, dates, times and ticket prices. - Natasha Lawrence
