Backdropped by the looming Sierra Madre range, this staggering expanse of recreation was built on the industrial ruins of the Monterrey Foundry. A well-known industrial site in the city at one time, this sprawling space was beautifully re-purposed within a matter of years, whilst still maintaining elements of its erstwhile industrial identity. A lush park surrounded by verdure, this sustainable space still preserves more than 120 pieces of equipment and colossal, factory-related accouterment, lending the recreational area much character and cultural backdrop. Interspersed within its industrial layout are newly created elements that function as event venues and areas for play. From the monumental Monterrey Arena to the Sesame Street-inspired Parque Plaza Sésamo, Fundidora Park shelters diverse features within its 142-hectare (350-acre) span.
