Yamuna Kinara Road, Agra Fort, Off National Highway - 3, Agra, India, 282001
The Diwan-i-Am (which translates to the Court of Commoners) in Agra Fort was where Emperor Shah Jahan addressed the public and the nobility. Made in red sandstone, the white shell plaster on its walls was as a result of the Emperor's fascination with white marbles at that time. This three-aisle structure comprises a grand assembly hall which features a raised platform called Takht-i-Murassa. This platform opens to a three-arched windows and was once the place where the famous Peacock Throne was situated. One of the peculiar aspects of Diwan-i-Am is the placement of the pillars which do not obstruct the view of the Takht-i-Murassa from any section of the courtyard. Diwan-i-Am is located close to the Delhi Gate which was used as an entrance by the Mughal emperors.
