One of the several college towns strewn all over the state of Pennsylvania, State College was founded alongside, and also flourished with, the Pennsylvania State University. The university was founded in 1855 and by 1896, State College had grown so much in population and importance that it was incorporated as a borough. Today, the town boasts an interesting population of students, visitors and residents and is regarded as one of the safest and also one of the most stress-free, Metropolitan areas in all of the United State, earning it the moniker, 'Happy Valley'.
