Set along a curve of the River Avon, Bristol Harbour is one of the city’s most bustling locales. This harbor has been in existence since the 13th Century and was heavily modernized in the 19th Century with the addition of locks to tackle tidal variations. Often referred to as a "floating harbor" as its water level is unaffected by the tide, this port proved to be invaluable until it could no longer accommodate the greatly magnified size of modern-day ships. Today, the Bristol Harbour is a vibrant playground dotted with restaurants, museums and cafes, and is the starting point for several cruises and boat trips. It is also home to many notable attractions including the St. Augustine's Reach, Pero’s Bridge and the Bristol Industrial Museum. Each year, the city celebrates the historic port through the Bristol Harbour Festival.
