The rustic yet charming community of Pungo derives its name from a prominent Native tribal chief known as Machipungo. Set inside the city of Virginia Beach, this community is often associated with Grace of Sherwood who was called the Witch of Pungo following accusations of being a witch. She was tied and flung into a river but managed escape unhurt giving more credibility to the accusations. Present day Pungo welcomes people to its farms where you can cut your own Christmas tree, or pick your own fruit and vegetables. The Pungo Strawberry Festival is an annual 2 day affair that involves arts, crafts, dance, music, drinks and strawberries!
