Founded in 1870 and located in New Mexico's Grant County, Silver City used to belong to the valiant Apache Natives until the Spanish and English settlers arrived here for prospects of copper mining. Once a busy mining town, now the economy depends heavily on tourism, and retired citizens usually choose to settle here. Nature lovers will delight in the dramatic rock formations, crystal lakes, and volcanic eruptions that abound in plenty. Silver City also boasts a rather choc-a-bloc cultural calendar all year round. Primary attractions here include Historic Downtown Silver City, Western New Mexico University Museum, and the lush Gila National Forest.
