Named after the Des Moines River after being incorporated in 1857, this city was initially called Fort Des Moines. The capital city of Iowa, it attracts financial and insurance companies in droves, and has been correctly called the 'Best Place for Business' by Forbes. A number of stunning Beaux Art buildings were built along the riverside in the 1930's, and they still continue to attract starry-eyed visitors. A pulsating cultural scene is boosted by annual jazz festivals, symphonies, orchestras, street parties, ballet, food markets and not forgetting the scenic amphitheater.
