The United State's second-oldest federal service institution, the United States Naval Academy or the USNA was inaugurated on October 10, 1845 by George Bancroft, the then Secretary of the Navy. Its motto is Ex Scientia Tridens, which translates to 'From Knowledge, Seapower' and is tasked with educating undergraduate officers that are commissioned to join the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy. The academy's most notable alumni include legendary NFL quarterback Roger Staubach and President Jimmy Carter, among many, many others. Designated as a national historic landmark in 1961, the institution's grandiose Memorial Hall and Naval Academy Chapel are two of its prime attractions.
