Also referred to as the Central Coast, Monterey Bay Area comprises of the coastal communities of Monterey counties and Santa Cruz. These communities form a major seaside tourist destination with vibrant locales that are rich in flora and fauna. The peninsula was discovered by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542 during his northward expedition of the coast and stumbled upon a piece of land that comprised of pine trees on the southern end of the bay.
