Set up sometime during the 1900s to protect the America waterway from intruders, the Marine Corps Base Hawaii is strategically located on Mokapu Peninsula about 12 miles (19.3 kilometers) away from Honolulu. Besides being used as a base, the Marine Corps Base Hawaii is also where the marines conduct their training activities. This space is also used as an events venue for a number of the Peninsula's cultural and community events. The most noted events held here annually, are the Kaneohe Bay Airshow and the Bayfest.
