Schloss Rheydt is a splendid castle built in 1060 with extensive renovations performed in the 16th Century. Today, it is a magnificent complex of Renaissance buildings and was awarded the European Museum of the Year Award in 1978, the second year of this prestigious award recognition by the European Museum Forum. Städtisches Museum Schloss Rheydt showcases the vibrant art, history and culture of Mönchengladbach through both permanent and temporary exhibitions. It is also a cultural hub and organizes major music festivals, Christmas markets, craft workshops, pottery classes and equestrian events. It also conducts special workshops and guided tours for school children.
