Built in 1802, the Goethe Theater still boasts of its original structure, making it the only preserved theater of the Goethe era. Surviving demolitions at the beginning of the 20th century, this historic theater underwent a series of modifications and renovations without any alternations to the main structure, allowing it to remain a fully functioning venue. Since then it has witnessed a number of musicals, dramatic arts and opera performances some even by renowned playwrights and poets such as Friedrich Schiller. However, the highlight of this historic venue was playing host to the debuting composer Richard Wagner.
