The Musée d'Unterlinden is set in a convent that was built in 1252, making it one of the oldest buildings in the region. As well as being a great place to visit for its architecture, the museum hosts many art exhibitions and is part of Alsace's cultural identity. The renowned museum is the most visited in France (roughly 200,000 visitors per year) outside of Île-de-France and bears the quality label of Musée de France. Most famous works of art include Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald along with other major collections of Rhenish medieval and early Renaissance art.
