Located to the north-west of Florence, the city Pistoia was a thriving economic hub after it came under the rule of the Romans in 6th century BC. Over the centuries, it became one of the most politically powerful cities in the Tuscany region. Pistoia is well-recognized among the literary and artistic circles because of a mention in Dante's legendary Divine Comedy. Tourists are fascinated by the Romanesque and Baroque-style cathedrals, fortresses, city gates and the bell tower which have been preserved lovingly.
