Stadio Via del Mare in Lecce is a historic sporting destination. Pleasantly distinct from rectangular soccer stadiums, this beautiful circular ground was constructed in 1966 by eminent architect Costantino Rozzi. It began with a capacity of 16,000, and with repeated renovations over the years, the present structure can house more than 40,000 people. Stadio Via del Mare is where the Unione Sportiva Lecce (U.S. Lecce) play their home games. The stands are in shades of red and yellow, colors sported by the home team. Stadio Via del Mare has hosted multiple Serie A league games and various other international matches. This massive stadium is occasionally used for non-sporting events.
