One of the oldest public parks in the city, Union Park is a lush expanse spanning 13.46 acres (5.45 hectares). The park was established in 1853, and later became one of the first public parks in the city to become racially integrated. Today, the park offers numerous sports facilities from baseball fields and tennis courts to soccer and basketball courts. There is a grand fieldhouse as well, offering meeting rooms as well as event facilities. The park is host to numerous cultural and public events throughout the year including a major music festival.
