Overlooking Lee Highway in Abingdon in the state of Virginia, Martha Washington Inn and Spa is a an upscale hotel. This historic hotel was built by General Francis Preston back in the year 1832. This mansion was originally built as a home for General Preston’s family. In later years, this building was used as a women’s college, a barrack and a hospital. This building was reopened as a hotel and spa in 1935. Several well-known personalities like Eleanor Roosevelt, Jimmy Carter, Harry S. Truman and Elizabeth Taylor have visited this hotel.
