Tampa, located on Florida's west coast, is a popular destination and port city. Originally settled by the Calusa tribe, the advent of Spanish conquistadors led to a change in the area's population and the city served as a frontier outpost after the United States bought the land. With the advent of the cigar industry, the town's economy flourished in the 19th Century, developing much of the city as we see it today. Tampa is a vibrant metropolis complete with a buzzing waterfront area along the Hillsborough River, contemporary restaurants, museums like the Tampa Museum of Art, plenty of family-friendly attractions like Lowry Park Zoo, and a thrumming nightlife scene and sun-loving beach culture.
