Located inside Central Park, the Naumburg Bandshell is the spot for many artists to ply their art, from electrifying names such as Phillip Sousa, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin and The Grateful Dead to youngsters from local schools who also wish to hone their chops. The bandshell remains a cultural icon at the northern end of the Mall and when an impromptu session begins, most visitors dance in step with the tune. During the summer, the park hosts several concerts which encompass all genres, from jazz to classical, modern dance to opera, big-band to rock-and-roll.
