Carnegie Mellon University is a prestigious institute of higher learning in Pittsburgh. The university was founded in 1900 by steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie as Carnegie Technical School. Carnegie's original goal was to start a trade school for the working class people of the city. In 1965, following a merger with Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, it became what it is today, Carnegie Mellon University. The university is located on a picturesque campus that sprawls over 140 acres (57 hectares) and features is a mix of Beaux-Arts and modern architectural style of structures. These include the Wean Hall, College of Fine Arts, Hunt Library and Cohon University Center. The Fence and a copy of the Walking to the Sky sculpture are famous art objects on campus.
