Located atop the Fort Saint-Pierre, Theatre De La Mer is a regular venue for many concerts as well as music festivals. The ancient fort that it calls home is a 17th-century construction and it was erected under the able leadership of Antoine Niquet. It served as an important port and protected the city of Sète from many invaders. The architecture of the fort is quite unique and its amphitheater-like interior was the reason why it was reincarnated, in 1959, as a theater. The setting is particularly breathtaking because it allows spectators to enjoy performances while getting lost in the sounds and breeze of the Baleraic Sea.
