Although many types of wildlife abound within Acadia National Park, nothing quite matches the majesty of the humpback whales that inhabit the Atlantic waters just off the Maine coast. Seabirds, seals and many other species thrive in the area as well; kids in particular will be enthralled. Bar Harbor has many tour operators that offer whale watching trips, sometimes in conjunction with sightseeing and historical tours. Cruises normally run from late May to mid-October. Prices vary greatly according to the vessel and the tour selected.
