Mount Herzl, also called Mount of Remembrance, is a national cemetery and memorial. Mount Herzl is the burial spot for many of Israel's leaders, including its assassinated Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995), whose memorial symbolizes the search for peace. Special monuments honor Jews who fought with the British Army and the Red Army during World War II, seamen from the Dakkar submarine, those who fell in Israel's War of Independence, and more. The cemetery holds ceremonies during Israel's annual memorial day for its fallen soldiers which is observed on 2 Iyyar (in May), the day before Independence Day.
